Highs & Lows

London Fashion Week: Antonio Berardi Spring 2012 Collection

The hottest trend to arrive for the spring/summer season is the high/low-cut for dresses and shirts. This design gives the front of the dress/shirt a short look in the front while the back has sort of train or longer flowing end for the dress/shirt. I love pieces designed this way because it takes away from the normal garb of either wearing clothing that maybe too short in the back, and now you can combine both!

If you’re looking to find and rock this look, then here are a few great finds:

Nastygal.com: Youth Revolt Dress-$170.00

milaandfire.com: Reconstructed Boatneck Floral Dip-Low Top w/ Cutout Shoulders-$30.00

FOREVER 21+: Contrast High-Low Shirt-$19.80

Beauty: Birch Box

I recently came across a new idea of sampling beauty products a few months ago with Test Tube. Although Test Tube is a good concept, I will honestly say the membership to participate was expensive and the products were a bit more for the ‘matured’ woman.

BEAUTY GOODIES!!

So, in a recent email I received, one of my fellow fashion bloggers signed up for Birch Box. Birch Box, just like Test Tube, is a beauty sample subscription service to where you get 4-5 beauty samples per month. And the best part is it includes free shipping!!! The subscription is only $10 per month or $110 for a year.

Birch Box delivers to you the latest in hot beauty products from brands like Carol’s Daughter, Nars, Fresh, and Bare Minerals just to name a few. The only catch is joining is limited and you would have to submit an email address to be notified of their next sign up slot.

If you liked any of the products that came in your Birch Box, you can go online to their site and purchase the full size product which also includes free shipping for items $50.00 and up. They also have an awesome online beauty magazine discussing latest beauty trends and products sampled.

I think this is a good thing for fashion bloggers and beauty bloggers to get involved in. Also for those who are beauty junkies and need that fix in an exciting and inexpensive way to test new items before purchasing them. This may be the best beauty sample program I have encountered!

Would you be signing up for Birch Box?

It is only right to review and give what will and SHOULD be this Spring’s trend report for your closet! And looking at this year’s Fashion Week, its time to review the haute looks for Spring.

1. Blush Colors

The softness of blush makes a spring day fresh! After a winter of dark colors, liven up your wardrobe by adding these soft, fresh, light pieces of this hue to your spring attire. This color can go from a fresh spring day to a elegant yet casual night!

Calvin Klein Spring 2012 Collection

ASOS CURVE Midi Dress With Grecian Detail $89.53

Forever 21 Chiffon High-Low Dress $27.80

 2. Sheer Bliss

I love all things sheer, chiffon and lace. It adds soo much sexiness to an outfit! Dresses with cut outs exposing skin, lace tops to pair with a simple black bra, to mini skirts that have a long layer of chiffon over it…if your feeling risque then this is a trend you should get into.

Anna Dello Russo in Stella McCartney

Go Jane Polka Dot Mesh Dress $29.40

Forever 21 High-Rise Palazzo Pants $22.80

3. Prints

I love PRINTS!! Mix them, Match them, go wild with different play on patterns and prints. This is a good way for fashionable maven to step out her box and try something different from the regular matchy matchy life. From Tribal, to geometric, to even simple polka dots and stripes, and even the occasional animal print, this is a trend to have FUN with!

L.A.M.B Spring 2012 Collection

KarmaLoop The Severina Trouser Pant $45.95

ASOS CURVE Exclusive Jersey Body In Yokopop Print $44.76

4. Peplum

This trend is when there is a ruffle or a over-skirt over a dress or skirt giving the waist/hip line an exaggerated look. This trend is definitely popping this spring with several designers who played with this in their collections for Spring 2012 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Peplum gives a 1920′s-1940′s glamour look to our spring wardrobe!

Jason Wu Spring 2012 RTW Collection

Aqua Claudia Structured Peplum Mini Dress $193.37

Go Jane Zipper peplum dress $34.00

2012 Oscar’s Best Dressed

This week we got a chance to witness some of the most amazing gowns in one place, THE OSCARS! Surprisingly this star studded event managed to not have too many mishaps with gowns worn by our favorite actors and actresses. So let me cut to the chase and give you the damsels whom I believe were the best dressed for the evening.

Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford

Gwyneth Paltrow, in my opinion, took the award home for best gown. I love a clean cut, stunningly simple look and she managed to wow everyone in this Tom Ford gown with cape. She also didn’t over due the look with gawking jewelry but still kept it simple with the Anna Hu cuff. Best gown of the NIGHT!

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad

The second best dress on the red carpet was Jennifer Lopez in this Zuhair Murad gown. Ms.Lopez is not a stranger to this designer whose gowns grab and shape her curves. She wore his gowns previously to the Golden Globe awards and also to the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute 2010 Gala. There was also a rumor of a possible nip slip but turns out that Ms. Lopez was well taped up. SORRY PERVS!

Rooney Mara in Givenchy

It seems although with the coming of spring that whites and blush colors are becoming trendy. Rooney Mara (Girl with the Dragon Tattoo star)  dawns a beautiful white Givenchy gown. Very innocent and coy dress for such a red carpet shy actress.

Viola Davis in Vera Wang

The Help star, Viola Davis, looks absolutely amazing in this green Vera Wang gown. I also love the fact that she is wearing her natural due in a red color which looks great with her skin tone and gown. Definitely a beautiful color for the red carpet!

Emma Stone in Giambattista Valli

MORE COLOR!!! Emma Stone rocked this gorgeous crimson gown by Giambattista on the red carpet. The gown was very playful for this carefree actress and very much fit her personality as well. I do not care much for the bow, but without it would we have paid much attention to the dress??

Penelope Cruz in Giorgio Armani

Absolutely LOVE how Penelope Cruz took it back to the old glamour days in this Giorgio Armani organza gown. The look of her coiled pinned up hair and the blue color of the gown makes it seem soo glamorous. Makes you wish things were back to the old Hollywood days.

Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace

Another old Hollywood glamour gown was Atelier Versace worn by Angelina Jolie. She looks Ah-May-Zing in this gown paired with a ruby lip. One thing I thought was that the emphasis of the slit in her gown was a bit much, but none the less Momma Angie pulled this simplest of simple gowns off with a bang!

So those were my picks for the Oscars. Which ones did you all like? Dislike? Or did I miss any that should have make the list? Let me know!!!

Yes or No? 2012 Grammy’s Fashion Wrap Up

GRAMMYS! GRAMMYS! GRAMMYS!

(I know I am LATE)

Earlier this week was the 2012 Grammy Awards and like most award shows, great attention was paid to what was worn on the red carpet. In remembrance of the recent passing of legendary singer, Whitney Houston, a day before the Grammys, most celebrities wore traditional black on the red carpet. But for those who chose to keep it fashionable, we got to see who wore what and by whom.

Singer Rihanna teamed up with Armani to create a very revealing low-scope backless dress. She paired the dress with Christian Louboutin Bis un Bout heels. Some have agreed she may have been the best dressed, but I beg to differ. Although Rihanna described her look as “sexy and rock star”, I thought for the Grammys it was a bit trashy. I still love Rih Rih though.

Black Eyed Pea’s female singer Fergie showed up on the red carpet wearing a couture Jean-Paul Gaultier dress that was said to be flown straight from the showroom. The color of the dress is beautiful, but  it seems although Fergie did not do this dress any justice what s ever. The undergarments are what your eyes are immediately drown to and definitely not a dress for the red carpet. But she wouldn’t be Fergie otherwise!

The big six time Grammy award winner that night, Adele, looked of an elegant songstress in her Giorgio Armani floor length gown. Donning red lips and volume blonde curls, the look was simple and elegant and not to take away from the stunning voice of the artist herself. Sometimes Grammys speak louder than gowns!

Alicia Keys and producer Swizz Beatz arrived on the red carpet looking very simple and smooth. Alicia Keys wore Alexander Vauthier dress with Christian Louboutin Bis un Bout heels. Alicia showed all her curves in this dress and looked sexy, simple and sleek!

One of my favorite gowns on the red carpet was Kelly Rowland rocking a Alberta Ferretti nude pink gown. She looked gorgeous in this!!! It played well with her soft look of her makeup and the simplicity of the styling of her hair. Definitely one of my faves!

I found singer Corrine Bailey Rae’s Grammy dress was very interesting. I did not know whether I like it or not. The dress is by Christian Siriano along with the shows from his Fall 2011 collection. I do not know if it is the fit of the dress, or the twist of the ruffles on the bottom of the gown but I am not settling on this as a good look.

Last but not least (I had to edit this post because I forgot), Nicki Minaj boldly arrived on the red carpet in this Versace red riding hood inspired dress. As many ave already stated it was surely an eye-sore and most talked about outfit on the red carpet for the Grammys. Ms. Minaj stated that Versace sent her a plethora of pieces to wear that night, and out of all of them she chose this. Sadly, fashion isn’t always about impressing the critics but about causing a stir. Congrats, Ms. Minaj. You did JUST that!

So those were the dresses that I found interesting for the Grammys. What did you think? Who do you believe was best and worst dressed?
